Cologne Reader's Conference

"In May the church sent our two Readers in Training, Alwyn and Margie, to a Conference in Cologne. It was held at the beautiful Kardinal Schulte Haus overlooking the city and about 60 Readers and Readers in Training attended. Bishop Robert and Bishop David and their team involved with Lay Readers were all present to give encouragement and lead the daily services.

The theme for the Conference was "Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory."

Those attending were enriched by some wonderful speakers, including Kathy Galloway from the Iona Community, Father Nicholas King, a Jesuit Priest who has translated the New Testament from Greek and whose talk just brought the scriptures to life as if he had been there and knew the Bible characters personally.

We were also blown away by David Wilkinson's talks on theology and astrophysics and the relationship between religion and science with some amazing pictures of the universe from space.

Other sessions too were enjoyed and the services were moving, beautiful and uplifting, including a service of healing. The music from the Iona Community filled the round chapel with voices blending in such beautiful harmonies.

All in all a wonderful experience, thought provoking and in some ways, life changing in how we look at the church, its purpose and our own calling to serve as lay ministers."
